Kentucky Church Bans Interracial Couples After Vote

Here is a story that could have taken place in 1960 not in 2011.
A tiny church called the Gulnare Free Will Baptist church located in Small Kentucky has voted to ban an interracial couple from participating in activities taking place in the house or worship.
Stella Harville and her fiancé, a Zimbabwean by the name of Ticha Chikuni used to sing and play music during religious gathering but were recently told that while they can attend services they were not welcomed to become members nor take active parts in services in the future.
On Sunday the former pastor of Gulnare Free Will Baptist church Melvin Thompson gathered the 40 member-congregation and asked them to vote on the resolution to kick the lovers out, 25 were outraged so they left but 15 stayed and the law was passed by a vote of 9-6.
Thompson stated that he is not racist and his decision to remove the pair from the religious institution is solely based on his intention “to promote greater unity among the church body and community.”
