The mysterious lady just like Victoria Beckham now has in her possession a limited red Birkin, made from crocodile skin and accessorized with gold and diamond.
While Hermès Birkin bags which sell for no less than $100,000 are a fashionista’s dream come true, it is a real nightmare for animal rights defenders like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
PETA has explained that in order to fabricate these luxurious leather bags, animals like ostriches and crocodiles are often captured illegally in the wild and their skin/feathers are removed while they are alive – which imply the animals suffer terribly before eventually dying.
Hermes chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas who created the Birkin in 1984 as a favor to then new mother Jane Birkin who complained to him about not being able to find large size bags has always denied PETA’s claims while insisting that the French company donates great amounts of money to charity.
